There is really never a bad time to drink water. Your body is made of over 50% water, and it is one of the few things that your body can’t survive without. The most important thing to remember is that by the time you feel thirsty your body is already in the stages of dehydration. To prevent the body from suffering the consequences of dehydration, you may have to be proactive about your consumption of water.

When are good times to drink water?

If you are an active person and on the go all the time, you may fail to drink water as you should. It is recommended that the average person get 6 to 8 8 ounces of water a day. That is a substantial amount, and one that most of us are negligent on following through with. If you don’t make a conscious effort to drink water on a regular basis, that is something you should get into the habit of doing. Carrying around a water bottle will ensure that you not forget to get your daily amount. For people who are more active, drinking water becomes even more important.

For those who are physically active it is a good idea to hydrate before, during and after you exert yourself. If you are going to engage in sports or physical activity you should drink several glasses of water prior to your workout. That will ensure that your body has the stores that it needs to perform optimally. Hydration is important for you to be at the top of your game. It not only increases your energy levels, it keeps your electrolytes in balance which aids in coordination, focus and fine motor skills. Drinking water before and after physical activity will also help you to go longer and to push harder. Keep a bottle with you while you are exercising, remembering to rehydrate frequently.

Post workout is also a crucial time to drink water. When you exercise you sweat and lose a lot of fluid. It is imperative that you replenish what is lost to maintain your performance levels. Keeping a healthy balance of fluid in your system over night is the best way to maintain good health, and have your body functioning optimally for longevity and to maintain the best quality of life.
